The American College of Cardiology is now accepting nominations for the 2016 Teaching Skills Workshop for Emerging Faculty Course. The deadline for applications is June 6, 2016.

Description: The success of the College’s education mission depends upon ongoing contributions from talented, expert faculty. Emerging teachers must be identified and brought into the ACC teaching fold. A generous grant from The Michael Wolk Heart Foundation is supporting a Teaching Skills Workshop for Emerging Faculty Course (“Educate the Educators”) to be held December 14-16, 2016 at the ACC Heart House in Washington, DC. Travel, lodging and meal expenses will be paid for up to 20 emerging, talented faculty to attend this course. The purpose of this course is to promote the development of skills for those emerging faculty who are committed to contributing to ACC’s education mission. These Emerging Faculty will then be considered by the ACC leadership as potential candidates for future educational courses as well as ACC committees.

Two ACC W. Proctor Harvey, MD, Young Teacher awardees will be selected from among the Emerging Faculty attendees.

This is a tremendous opportunity for your promising young faculty, not only for developing their teaching skills but also “opening the door” for other College activities.

Procedure: Letters of nomination may be submitted by anyone who is a recipient of this Call for Nominations. Interested applicants must complete the application by clicking here and submit the following documents as part of the application:

· Curriculum vitae

· Nomination letter from Chair or Fellow of ACC who is familiar with the candidate's teaching abilities

· One supporting letter from a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology who is familiar with the candidates’ teaching abilities

· One personal letter from the candidate explaining why they feel they should be part of the course

Eligibility and Target Audience: Candidates must be Fellows or Associate Fellows of the American College of Cardiology in good standing, who have not yet attained the academic rank of professor. Candidates should also be in a full-time academic position where there is a complement of medical students or house-staff to be taught.

Selection Criteria and Process: Exceptional talent and dedication to teaching (assisting and supporting the learning process) will guide the selection of course attendees. The Emerging Faculty Planning Committee will review all nominations and make final selections of course attendees.

Overall Course Goal: The overall goal of this course is to enhance participant’s competence by promoting the development of skills for those Emerging Faculty who are committed to contributing to ACC’s education mission and to facilitate this transfer of knowledge into their professional practice.
